Want dan mag (/moet) ik bij het uploaden van de youtube clips een beschrijving zelf verzinnen en mijn bazen vinden het sowieso prima wat ik opschrijf als het maar klinkt naar ‘iets’. (Dat is niet helemaal waar natuurlijk ik moet nog veel oefenen bij het beschrijven van muziek).

The Devil’s Crayon sees Tom Fleming swap vocals duties with usual lead singer Hayden Thorpe. With its refrain of “We are so many tiny pieces” and Tom’s yearning delivery, the song shimmers in widescreen around a sense of location, melody and wonder at the scale of things. The Devil’s Crayon sounds like the theme song to a new kind of very English, (probably un-filmable) road movie.

The second single to be taken from Wild Beasts’ debut album Limbo, Panto (available now) washes out the mouth and dunks the head through its utter jiving urgency, reeling rhythms and soft-on-the-outside-hard-on-the-inside vocals. As happy go lucky as the bingo hall from which it was born, this winner is a one off.

All The Kings Men, released on October 5th 2009, is the infectious second single and a real stand out track from Wild Beasts exceptional album, Two Dancers.

An ode to Girls from Rodean, girls from Shipley, girls from Hounslow, girls from Whitby, All The Kings Men is one from the dead-eyed to the doe-eyed, featuring a decadent tenor from Tom Fleming who takes the reins on lead vocals. Layers of swaying keyboards from Hayden Thorpe, crystalline guitars from Benny Little and a rutting tom-tom from Chris Talbot create the songs’ cascading, sinuous groove. Watch me, watch me!
Wild Beasts – All The Kings Men

Eigenlijk wilde ik gewoon zeggen dat de Wild Beasts chill zijn en dat even delen. Goed; aangezien het nu over stagelopen bij Domino Records gaat, nog een drietal chille artiesten.

In de chille Amerikaanse indie zangerliedjeschrijver categorie met een naam alsof hij klinkt alsof hij al jaren mee gaat: Lou Barlow.

In diezelfde categorie maar dan wat minder nadruk op ‘luister mij eens zelf een liedje schrijven en zingen en ik heb een penis’: The Pastels.

En dan is er al een trailer gepost van het volgende liedje, iets wat, nog steeds, in mijn mening alleen wijlen Michael Jackson mocht doen. Light Speed Champion’s nieuwe, Marlene.
